Red Rose Update

Red Rose veterans golf league

The Red Rose League was formed in 1988 with Heysham being the most northerly of the then ten golf clubs included.

The league enables senior golfers, over 60 years of age with an active handicap, to participate in friendly competition with other clubs.

The league has now expanded to 12 teams.  After the closure of Fishwick Hall, three clubs, Longridge, Penwortham and Turton, have joined the league.

Each club provides a 14 man team for matches home and away against each of the other eleven clubs.

The Team is picked by the Captain (this season Keith Savage). Each match consists of 7 better ball match play games with two points for a win and one point for a half. The league is won by the team with the most points over the season.

After the game we have a two course meal with a dress rule of change to smart casual only.

The Presidency of the league is held in rotation by each of the clubs and holds an end of season competition for all Red Rose members at their course.  Heysham held that position in 2015.

Red Rose Roll Up

We are trialing a roll up every Thursday at our usual start time of 11.00am. Just be there if you want a game or are interested in playing for our team.

This years fixture list is shown above and starts early April so we will have our preseason competition late March.

Heysham Red Rose Secretary
